Back from Bali !!!

Hello all,

Since gupo shared her trip experiences, I shall too!!

Steps leading up to our very own bungalow - how cool is that.

The view from our balcony is just breathtaking - miles and miles of green padi.
On a sidenote, name of our hotel is Green Field Ubud. Good name, eh.

I like this picture with its interesting angles and complementary colours.

The living room where we always ate breakfast. Just besides the living room, its the super ultra romantic bedroom that reminds me of sweet honeymoons and romances.

Breakfast.

Rice terraces from the top view.

Road trip to Mount Kita something ( I forgot the name)
Strong, winding roads to nowhere.

Lake Batur. Excellent view.

Villagers actually live here, they are usually fishermen.
I would love to have such a view from my bedroom.

Ah-Ha! Here's Mount Kita something.
It's an active volanco i gather, what with all the black ashes like soot for soil.

We stared at this view while eating lunch.

It was cold, the wind was quite strong and it reminded me of my Cameron Highlands class trip!

Mr. Painter. Quite an interesting guy.
His grandfather, by the way who is 75 years old nw
painted that picture. Beautiful.

Mr Painter no 2 at an art gallery. Less impressive than the first, but still good.

The Ubud Central Market where we went crazy over shopping!

Isn't she utterly adorable? THat smile you see on her?
It was made by ME. =)

Ducks on a road, pretending they're kings!
When do you ever get to see that kind of scene in Singapore?

More paintings. Ubud is practically a paintings paradise!

Dad with his critical eye.

Paintings again at a painter's house in the back lane.

Next time you guys come over, this painting will be on our wall.

Our room at Sofitel where we left from Ubud to Salimyak i think.
FREE night stay cos we had some voucher.

The beach and its solitude.

The red flag means Swimming is Forbidden
and it is not difficult to see why, with the strong torrents and high waves.

Swimming pool with Jacuzzi that was unfortunately filled with all the ang-mohs.

Mum and I

Family trio.

I always had a secret fear that that wave's a tsunami.

Sunset beckons.

Stunning isnt it?

And now. BAck Home.
Look at the galore of things we bought!!

=)
This has been a rather relaxing trip, minus the stress and buzz of everyday life in Singapore.
When I look at the people there, I wish we could be like that. What's the point of grades, money and condominums if if meant that we would lose sleep, friendship and health in our pursuit of materialism and perfection? I passed by the site of the Bali bombings. The taxi driver pointed to us the 2 exact spots where the bombs went off and killed over 200 people.
Lives lost in an instant flash of light.
He said that it was horrible, the way death became a constant stench afterwards. I had a creepy feeling when I passed by the place and only when the taxi driver told us that this was where people died, did I understand why I had experienced such a strong sense of unease. There were many many pictures of the dead on the walls, lamposts and fences. The Balinese even built a memorial there. The names of the dead carved, the pictures of the dead everywhere. I felt like a living among the dead. The taxi driver also told us that after the Bali bombings, they suffered an economical decline. Hotels and shops closed and many people became bankrupt. When my mum asked how long did it take for them to recover, he replied: 2 years. 2 YEARS!
But the city is on its feet again and life is rejuvenating everywhere. But I guess that incident is a very painful reminder of the fact that life just as it is strong-willed and spirited, life can easily be extinguished in a single moment irregardless of anything and everything.
Fraility within fragility.

End of trip journal.
